Faces of the Flood: Bangkok 2011

The massive flooding that hit Thailand’s central provinces earlier this year worked its way towards Bangkok in early October. Over the next few weeks, the water inundated the city’s western half. It also submerged the provinces just to the north and northwest of the metropolitan area. Lasting until well into November, the flood nearly overwhelmed all flood defences, even threatening central Bangkok.

As December approaches, many areas remain under water. The following footage captures the flooding at its height and documents the damage done to the lives of millions of people, while focusing on individuals and their courage and resourcefulness in coping with the largest natural disaster in Thailand since the 1940s.
